Course Description
Did you know that seventy percent of the public ministry of Jesus involved healing? Did you know that one hundred percent of the time healing produced evangelism? Healing is central to the Gospel and central to the message and ministry of Jesus through His church. In fact, Jesus gave to His church the authority to heal the sick. Healing and the Local Church will look at the sacrament of Unction and offer a comprehensive overview of the ministry of healing as recorded in scripture. In addition to this historical study we will offer a number of practicums. This course will help you appreciate the value of the healing ministry in the local church and give you practical suggestions and workable models to introduce and develop a healing ministry in your congregation.
The Purpose of the Course
It has been our experience that most of the western church has a low value and experience in this area, due to very little training. Our suspicions are high and our confidence is low, we have seen faith healers and are skeptical. The emotionalism involved as well as the constant plea for money has held many of us at arms length and soured us against this precious gift of the Holy Spirit. The purpose of this course is to demystify healing and make it accessible to your people and to your community. Having a high level of credibility and authenticity glorifies the Lord and touches broken humanity – physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Intended Outcome
It is our goal to provide for you a solid theology of Christian healing, as well as a working knowledge of this ministry and how it can be integrated into the fabric of your congregation at the local level. We believe healing is a grace given by God and that He loves to heal us and healing should be expected and normative in the life of the local church. We also want to introduce you to excellent training materials and provide for you a number of practicum’s that model this ministry so you have a good idea of what healing might look like in your church. Furthermore, want to remove the emotionalism, hype, and sensationalism connected to the unhealthy models many have seen or experienced. We will address the challenges of, when people are not healed, the role of faith for healing and the joys, as well as the disappointments that are part of this ministry.
